Running Low on Phone Memory

At our computer expo today there was great interest in smartphones, along with many questions about them.

A number of users cited a common problem of running out of internal memory space, and asked for solutions.

The first solution is to remove memory heavy games, and the second is to move photos to cloud storage.   In Settings you can arrange for photos to be automatically backup to cloud storage..  Then, in Settings, you can free up that local space by deleting pictures.

Tap or click for more detail.

Games can continue to be kept in your cloud library and installed only when you need them.    Apps also can be deleted and reinstalled when you need them, as well..

Often, by using the browser as an alternative to the app, you can drastically reduce memory usage by getting rid of an app altogether.   For example CBS News can be run from the browser as well as from the app.  So set up a browser bookmark and get rid of the app.

Selected apps can also be moved from the internal memory to external memory for phones that provide for that to be added in the form of a SD card.    Music, photos, and books can be placed exclusively in such storage.

Google Play Music, for example, can be configured in its settings to download specifically to SD for Android version 6.0 Marshmallow.

A new phone with more memory and Marshmallow 6.0 might even be cheaper than adding memory.

Or tap or click to try another solution.
